Supporting Nepal’s Children: Rhita Doma Sherpa – our budding architect
Following her trek to Everest Base Camp in 2023, director Robin Quirt started sponsorship of a young girl she met in Nepal to support her studies to become an architect.
It is a seven-year process for Rhita Doma Sherpa but the regular contributions from Robin and the other members of the trekking team will help her complete her education by contributing towards University study fees, accommodation and subsistence costs.
Many Nepali children do not go to school, and education standards vary widely - some schools in the area operate with a single teacher to a class of 50+ and little or no resources.
Supporting Nepal’s Children is a charity set up with the aim to change that - to bring quality education to the remote Nepali villages so that their children can flourish, learn new skills, and create opportunities for themselves whilst staying within their own community. With the support of the many trekkers and climbers who pass through the villages, it aims to help the local education specialists re-equip the schools and rebuild where necessary with the full involvement of the village community.

Robin and the team received the latest update from Rhita to say that her dad is back at Base Camp on his way to the top of Mt. Everest, while her mum was keeping busy in their little tea shop.
Meanwhile, Rhita is almost at the end of her final semester. From 27th April to 7th May, she has exams and then two years of high school will be complete.
Rhita also added that the computer that was donated to her for her studies is still working and she is learning to type fast!
January 2026
Robin was happy to receive the latest update from Rhita, regarding her architect studies.
“Namaste and happy New Year. We are doing great here and I hope you are in very good health. I have done my mid-semester and from today we have a winter break of 7 days.
Within April there is my final semester. So academically, we are in a rush to finish the entire books and courses. Anyway, college is going well so far and I’m happy to be here.
I’m very glad to hear from you all. Thank you so much. The picture above is with my college friends Krisna Kumari Yadav and Sujita Basnet. They are really good friends to me.

Robin was delighted to receive an update from Rhita in Kathmandu, who has used some of the funding from her sponsors to buy a huge pile of course books to continue her studies and prepare for NEB (National Examination Board of Nepal).
In addition to the books, she has also bought pens, lab coat and equipment, sketch books and book rack and is extremely grateful for everyone’s continued support in helping her realise her dreams.
Rhita is doing well and working hard to achieve her ambition of going to university.
Here you can see her with her fellow students. They had an interesting visit to the Natural History Museum of Nepal at Soyambhunath, Kathmandu. After the visit, Rhita wrote and submitted a full 14-page report, which she really enjoyed researching and working on.
