Burfields House Team Lends a Hand at The Mildred Trust Community Garden

21 August 2026

A few members of the Burfields House team recently spent the morning volunteering with The Mildred Trust, helping to develop its community garden project in Tenterden.

Despite the soaring temperatures, the team worked hard to construct two new raised planting beds and a storage box, which will be used by local residents and children attending the Trust's educational workshops. The new facilities will help provide a welcoming space where people of all ages can learn about gardening, sustainability and growing their own food.

The Mildred Trust works across Tenterden and the surrounding rural areas to create opportunities for local people through its focus on food, sustainability, community activities and support for children and young people. The charity is particularly committed to helping children develop practical skills, build confidence and strengthen their connection with nature through hands-on learning experiences. These include activities that teach young people how food is grown, harvested and prepared, helping them gain a greater understanding of where their food comes from while encouraging healthy and sustainable living.

Community gardens play an important role in this learning journey, providing outdoor spaces where children can plant seeds, nurture crops and experience the rewards of growing their own fruit and vegetables. The garden also provides a space for children to have fun together while learning about wildlife and the importance of looking after the environment.

Supporting local charities and community initiatives is an important part of life at Burfields House. Whether through fundraising, sponsorship or volunteering our time, we are always pleased to help projects that make a positive difference in the communities where we live and work.

The team thoroughly enjoyed the morning and were delighted to contribute to a project that will benefit local families and inspire the next generation to get outdoors, connect with nature and learn more about the food they eat.

A big thank you to The Mildred Trust team for the warm welcome and for the incredible work they continue to do across our local area.
